Message The rear main seal can't go too far b/c there's a seat that will stop it a few millimeters after the back of the block.

Here's how I do :
- Remove the plate that holds the rear main seal (3 bolts).
- Remove the paper gasket and clean the metal parts.
- Remove the rear main seal with a hammer (don't hurt the plate).
- Remove the rubber oil pan seal and clean the metal parts (old silicone gasket).

- Install the new main seal in the plate with a hammer and a piece of wood (to protect the main seal), until you reach the seat. Be sure the spring in the main seal is OK.
- Put some liquid gasket on both extremities of the oil pan seal and install it.
- Install the new paper gasket an reinstall the plate with the rear main seal. You have to push the plate against the oil pan seal, but it's easy.

You can install the rear main seal at the end of the process. It should be easier to reinstall the plate w/o the main seal (you wouldn't have to push against the oil pan seal), but you have to be careful with the spring in the main seal.
